PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
