Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.
Victory also indicates he has secured 21 titles at 21 various events.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved service.
He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, took control to force a third set.
Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
